Government’s Rwanda deportation plan ruled unlawful
Posted on 29 Jun 2023
Responding to the Court of Appeal judgment that the Government’s plan to deport people seeking asylum to Rwanda was unlawful, Jun Pang, Liberty Policy and Campaigns Officer said:
“This is a victory for everyone who has stood against the Government’s cruel, inhumane and unlawful plan to send those seeking safety to Rwanda.
“Either all of us have human rights or none of us do. This plan is just one example of how the Government is trying to put itself above the law and override international human rights principles.
“While we celebrate today’s win there is still work to do. We will continue to stand against the Government’s Illegal Migration Bill which entrenches the hostile environment, and which would allow those in power to commit human rights abuses without consequence.”
